~Full Dentition~
April 20, 1992 - February 24, 2004
It is with a heavy heart that I had to say good-bye to a dear friend tonight. Dusty passed away quietly tonight in my arms.
Dusty came to me as a 7 1/2 week old pup. I always remember that when he came out of his crate, he marched out, looked around and thought he owned the place. I couldn't believe the size of his paws and legs and quickly termed him "log legs". He finally matured into those log legs, keeping his lovely bone among other attributes. He finished easily in limited showing. I put both his majors and most of the minors points on him myself. It was quite a thrill when he became my first Champion. He was always such a strong and powerful moving dog. I also tinkered around in obedience with him and he easily gained his CD despite my handling errors.
Dusty was my also my co-worker on three different jobs that I've had throughout the years. My first job he accompanied me on was when I worked for a handler and was able to bring him with me and show him some. We logged many miles in her motorhome together, going up and down the entire Pacific coast. When I changed jobs and worked briefly at a nursing home, he came as a therapy dog and made many friends there. He really seemed to know that those people needed him too. His final job was to accompany to work as a Pet Training Instructor. He especially seemed to love this job and was able to stay with it for about 3 years until the arthritis advanced too severely in his spine. He loved that job too. I don't know if was all the treats he got when he was there, but I suspect that had something to do with it.
Dusty left his legacy here as a wonderful sire. Everything I have, except for one dog, goes back to him. Not only did he produce typey, sound pups, but he had several kids and lots of grandkids that became guide dogs. He also sired one Ch, and several obedience title pups.
So it saddens to me have to say good bye to a true friend and companion.
Rest easy my friend until we meet again.
